A Candidate Focused on the Community
When longtime Beaconsfield resident Greg Orleski decided to run for mayor, it wasn’t about politics. It was about preserving what makes Beaconsfield special, while managing smart, realistic growth.
His roots in the city go back more than 25 years. “We have the green, the nature, the fresh air, and the sense that everyone knows everyone. That’s non-negotiable.”
Keeping What Works, Evolving What Doesn’t
Greg sees a clear path forward for Beaconsfield. He wants to protect the core values that drew families here in the first place: nature, belonging, and quality of life, while supporting projects that help the city evolve responsibly.
He highlights the upcoming arts and cultural center near Centennial Park as an example. “We can modernize and build without changing the spirit of Beaconsfield,” he says.
Managing Growth Without Burdening Homeowners
With Beaconsfield’s tax base relying heavily on homeowners, fiscal responsibility is key. Greg outlines three strategies to help the city grow without raising taxes unnecessarily:
- Optimize city-owned spaces like Centennial Hall and the recreation center by generating modest rental revenue.
- Leverage grants from provincial and federal programs with clear, shovel-ready plans.
- Build partnerships with other municipalities to share services and lower costs.
The message: spend smarter, not more.
Transparency and Communication Come First
Greg believes Beaconsfield needs more than just good policies; it needs open communication between residents and City Hall.
He envisions town halls, digital updates, and a transparent communication strategy that gives residents the context behind decisions. “You can never communicate too much,” he says. “People want to feel heard, not surprised.”
That includes making caucus discussions more public, except in cases where legal confidentiality applies.
Smart Densification, Not High-Rises
When it comes to housing and development, Greg takes a balanced view. Beaconsfield can accommodate growth, but it needs to do so responsibly.
He supports low-rise, human-scale housing near transportation hubs like St-Charles and Elm; the kind that creates opportunities for downsizers, seniors, and young adults who want to stay in the community.
No high-rises. No loss of green space. Just smarter, more inclusive planning.
Lessons From the West Island
Greg’s leadership with the West Island Assistance Fund taught him the power of collaboration. When the organization needed to expand its food security services, he helped bring together local leaders, donors, and municipalities to make it happen.
That same coalition-building mindset, he says, can be applied to Beaconsfield’s biggest challenges — from infrastructure funding to community programming.
A Collaborative Approach to Leadership
Whether it’s negotiating ongoing disputes with Montreal or improving how homeowners get renovation permits, Greg believes the key is listening and problem-solving.
He points to lessons from other municipalities and nonprofits: learn what worked, what didn’t, and what to never repeat. “You don’t have to reinvent the wheel,” he says. “You just have to ask good questions and actually listen.”
What Greg Would Change First
If elected, Greg’s first priority is improving communication. “People shouldn’t only hear from City Hall during election time,” he explains. “They should feel part of the process year-round.”
That means meeting residents where they are — from neighbourhood coffees to online town halls — and turning their passion into participation.
